  • · Pleased to see stakeholders having a BIGGER conversation about the need for better food traceability in the 21st century food system. #traceability #smarterfoodsafety https://t.co/NOQYHz95gx
  • · ALERT: FDA & @CDCgov are warning consumers who purchased whole, fresh papayas from Mexico in CT, MA, NY, NJ, PA, & RI to stop eating & throw them out immediately due to an outbreak of Salmonella Uganda: https://go.usa.gov/xygSg
  • · Importers, suppliers, distributors, restaurants, retailers, & other food service providers from all states are strongly advised to hold papayas imported from Mexico in order to prevent or limit further distribution of potentially contaminated papayas.
  • · #FDA is increasing import screenings of papayas & conducting a traceback investigation to determine the source. @US_FDA will also continue to provide timely public updates as more information becomes available. To learn more about Salmonella: https://go.usa.gov/xygSB

  • · 1/ At FDA, we’re excited about potential clinical and therapeutic uses of CBD. They should be studied and supported by the same level of evidence that we expect for therapeutic claims about any other substance. Patients deserve that.
  • · 2/ As we continue to evaluate policy options for CBD, it’s important that we continue to encourage (and don’t undermine) promising clinical research into CBD’s therapeutic benefits.
  • · 3/ In all of this, safety is paramount. CBD is not a risk-free substance, and we need to make sure we understand its potential adverse effects as well as its potential benefits.
  • · 4/ Quick update on our CBD work plan: We are continuing review of the currently available medical research and data. We await the information from the public docket which is open through 7/16/19; we want all input especially submissions of scientific data. https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=FDA-2019-N-1482 …

  • · #FDA & @CDCgov are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Uganda suspected to be related to whole, fresh papayas from Mexico. If you’ve purchased papayas in CT, MA, NY, NJ, PA, or RI, do not eat & throw them away immediately: https://go.usa.gov/xygSg
  • · Importers, suppliers, distributors, restaurants, retailers, & other food service providers from all states are strongly advised to hold papayas imported from Mexico in order to prevent or limit further distribution of potentially contaminated papayas.
  • · 62 cases have been reported, with the majority of the illnesses in the northeast. #FDA is increasing import screenings of papayas & conducting a traceback investigation to determine the source. This investigation is in early stages & #FDA will continue to provide updates.
  • · Consumers who have Salmonella symptoms should contact their health care provider to report their symptoms & receive care.
