  • · FDA denied petition requesting the warnings on baking soda related to the product’s use in the manufacture of illegal drugs finding that when packaged and promoted primarily for uses other than drug/antacid uses (e.g., baking ingredient, refrigerator deodorant, household cleaner), sodium bicarbonate powder does not pose a threat and the petitioner failed to provide evidence that any of the proposed labeling changes would be likely to appreciably affect the use of sodium bicarbonate products to manufacture and distribute illegal drugs (e.g., crack cocaine).

Sustainable Diets, Food, and Nutrition: Proceedings of a Workshop

  • · On August 1-2, 2018, the Food Forum of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened a 1.5-day public workshop that reviewed the current and emerging knowledge on the concept of sustainable diets within the field of food and nutrition. This publication summarizes the discussions that took place throughout the workshop which explored how sustainable diets could impact dietary patterns, the food system, and population and public health. Broadly, the workshop explored sustainable diets and relevant impacts for cross-sector partnerships, policy, and research.
