FDA-2014-P-0823, Citizen Petition From Richard D. Burk, Requests That the FDA Provide a Warning Label on Baking Soda Products by Amending 21 C.F.R. section 331.30(f).
- · FDA denied petition requesting the warnings on baking soda related to the product’s use in the manufacture of illegal drugs finding that when packaged and promoted primarily for uses other than drug/antacid uses (e.g., baking ingredient, refrigerator deodorant, household cleaner), sodium bicarbonate powder does not pose a threat and the petitioner failed to provide evidence that any of the proposed labeling changes would be likely to appreciably affect the use of sodium bicarbonate products to manufacture and distribute illegal drugs (e.g., crack cocaine).
