@FDACommissioner

  • · #OUTBREAK ALERT: @US_FDA and @CDCgov, along w/ state & local officials, are investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Carrau infections likely linked to pre-cut melons distributed by Caito Foods. Company has issued a recall for affected products. https://go.usa.gov/xm4Su
  • · #FDA is advising consumers not to eat pre-cut melon products produced at the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. Caito Foods distributed products produced at this facility in IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, MI, MI, MO, NE, NY, NC, OH, PA, TN, WV, and WI.
  • · #RECALL: Caito Foods is recalling products that contain pre-cut melons. However, consumers may still have these products in their possession and are advised to discard, and not eat them. For store and product info, read more: https://go.usa.gov/xm4Su

  • · [retweet @RushdiSiddiqui] The impact of @FrankYiannasFDA ... Great to see the @US_FDA thinking like a @startup, with #4IR tech like #blockchain, where it is taking a holistic approach to disrupt concerns on #foodsafety, tracing, etc., as directly impact public health.. https://www.foodprocessing.com/industrynews/2019/fda-2020-budget-request/?_lrsc=4de1a5cd-93d8-4a15-a293-b938b1346f45
  • · @US_FDA and @CDCgov are announcing an outbreak likely linked to pre-cut melon from a Catio Foods facility in Indiana. Using this information, we’ve quickly worked with the company and retailers to recall the products from the marketplace. https://go.usa.gov/xm4Su
  • · We’ll continue our trace back investigation from the facility to determine what country the imported melons were from how they became contaminated. Consumers can protect themselves by discarding any product that may still be in their fridge or freezer.
  • · Responding to food safety problems is a vital part of FDA’s mission & to protecting consumers from further exposure. While we’ve taken quick action to warn consumers about these recalled pre-cut melon products, work remains to address the risks & find the source of contamination.
  • · #FDA and Indiana State Health Department are investigating Caito Foods’ facility & will conduct an inspection that’ll help identify the actions the company will need to take to prevent an outbreak like this from happening again. We’ll continue to provide updates as we learn more.
  • · It’s good to see another retailer pursuing modernization of their food traceability capabilities. It’s time to replace the one step-up & one-step, paper based paradigm with a more modern, end-to-end, real-time, industry norm. #traceability #blockchain https://www.chainstoreage.com/operations/albertsons-applies-blockchain-technology-to-food-safety/
