@FrankYiannasFDA

@US_FDA

  • · FDA believes that antimicrobial drugs in animals should be provided with the oversight of a licensed veterinarian. That’s why we issued new draft guidance to help animal drug sponsors voluntarily change the status of their remaining over-the-counter meds. https://go.usa.gov/xVpZn
  • · On Sept. 18th, representatives from @FDA_ORA met with their counterparts in New Delhi, India, to discuss bilateral cooperation. FDA continues to emphasize international engagement & is seeking to place special agents in strategic countries around the world
  • · FDA partners with the University of Arizona @azcoopext, Wellton-Mohawk Irrigation and Drainage District, and Yuma Area leafy greens stakeholders on a study to enhance the safety of produce grown in the Yuma region.
  • · This initiative is a multi-year study focused on how human pathogens survive, move & possibly contaminate produce prior to harvest in the Yuma region. https://go.usa.gov/xVpK9 This study follows the Spring 2018 Yuma region E.coli O157:H7 outbreak linked to romaine lettuce.
  • · The findings will contribute new knowledge on how various environmental factors may influence bacterial persistence & distribution in this region, & how those factors may impact the risk of produce becoming contaminated.
  • · Results from this collaboration will lead to improved practices to prevent or mitigate food safety risks, and ultimately enhance the safety of produce grown in the Yuma region.
