USDA Files Action Against National Produce Sales Inc. in Illinois for Alleged PACA Violations

@US_FDA

  • · FDA strongly supports reducing food waste through efforts like today’s agreement with @USDA, @EPAgov & @FWRAOrg. We are committed to doing all that we can to support food policies that are good for our families, communities & our planet https://go.usa.gov/xpYEC

@FDAanimalhealth

  • · Based on the slowed rate of cases reported, @CDCgov says the outbreak of human Salmonella infections linked to pig ear pet treats appears to be over. FDA & CDC are now modifying the original advice to avoid purchasing/feeding all pig ear pet treats https://go.usa.gov/xpYNe
  • · If you choose to feed pig ear treats, use caution + good hygiene: watch your pet while they have the treat & pick it up when done, keep treats away from kids, clean areas the treat contacted, wash hands + don’t allow your pet to lick you, family members or surfaces in the home
  • · Although the outbreak appears to be over, FDA will continue to monitor the marketplace as product is introduced and will provide the public with any new information as it becomes available.

@SecretarySonny

  • · Tune in tomorrow for the newest episode of my podcast, The Sonnyside of the Farm. This month, I sat down with @MaxArmstrong to talk about USDA’s informal motto to “Do Right and Feed Everyone” and how that drives all the work we do at @USDA for the American People.

@FrankYiannasFDA

  • · THREAD: Today, we shared news of a recent E. coli O157:H7 outbreak that was likely associated with romaine lettuce. https://www.fda.gov/news-events/fda-brief/fda-cdc-and-other-health-partners-investigated-outbreak-e-coli-o157h7-possibly-linked-romaine
  • · While we do not believe there is a current or ongoing risk to the public and we are not recommending consumers avoid any product, because of our commitment to “transparency”, we wanted to share what we know with the public and stakeholders.
  • · This outbreak, along with previous outbreaks linked to romaine, reinforces the recommendations we’ve made to the leafy green industry: a) producers must review & adhere to safe practices & b) the entire leafy green continuum needs to improve their traceability capabilities.

@US_FDA

  • · FDA, @CDCgov & partners investigated an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 possibly from romaine lettuce. The outbreak appears over, & there is no risk to public health. We remain committed to improving the safety of leafy greens & traceability from farm to fork.

@FDAfood

  • · Update: US FDA makes available testing method for PFAS in foods & final results from recent surveys. The revised data set reflects final values using a scientifically validated method detection limit (MDL) & other adjustments to the calculation method. https://go.usa.gov/xpg5u
