FDA Releases 2016-2017 NARMS Integrated Summary, Streamlines Reporting Format
@FrankYiannasFDA
- · Alert: Today, we are providing an important update into our investigation of an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 illnesses which have sickened more than 40 people in 16 states. Our investigation has led us to farms in Salinas, California. https://go.usa.gov/xp56N
- · While we are sending investigators, we are also warning consumers to not eat any romaine lettuce harvested from Salinas, California. If romaine lettuce does not have labeling information or the source cannot be confirmed, consumers should not eat or use the romaine.
- · At this time, there is no recommendation for consumers or retailers to avoid using romaine harvested from other sources outside of Salinas or labeled as indoor, or hydroponically- and greenhouse-grown.
- · #OUTBREAK Update: Look on #Romaine packaging for growing/ harvest location. If it says Salinas, whether alone or with the name of another location, do not eat it. https://go.usa.gov/xp565
- · This outbreak was caused by the same E. coli strain that caused outbreaks in 2017 and 2018, according to Frank Yiannas, FDA's deputy commissioner for food policy and response, and the CDC.
- · #CDC found vitamin E acetate, an additive in THC-containing products, in lung fluid samples from ppl w/ e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury. Avoid THC-containing products, esp from informal sources like friends, family, or dealers. http://cdc.gov/lunginjury
