About:
The Tennessee CoE has released a new course in its dynamic online training series on outbreak investigation and response. Course 4, "Environmental Health Investigations," provides detailed training on environmental health assessments and other activities undertaken during an outbreak investigation. Topics covered include food sampling and shipping, product tracing, and control measures to be implemented during a foodborne disease outbreak.
The Environmental Health Investigations course builds upon the three previously released courses which include detailed information on the integrated food safety system, foodborne disease agents, surveillance systems, and responses to complaint-driven versus lab-identified clusters. The training curriculum also includes optional in-person activities which may be completed by the investigation team at designated intervals between the online courses in the series. The activities complement the online courses to guide the development of a team-based, jurisdiction-specific outbreak response plan and strengthen the team response to foodborne disease investigation.
Training Curriculum:
This unique hybrid training curriculum provides a flexible training tool for frontline public health staff that may be unable to attend multi-day, in-person trainings. Each online course takes 3-5 hours to complete, but registered participants may log out and resume courses at their convenience. The in-person activities are designed to be completed during a regular team meeting and take approximately 1 hour each.
