Dear Partners:

We want to remind our valued partners of the upcoming Partnership for Food Protection (PFP) 10th Anniversary Webinar that will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, 1:00 – 2:30 pm EDT. We hope that you will be able to participate in this important commemorative event.

The PFP is comprised of dedicated professionals from federal, state, and local governments, as well as trade associations, with roles in protecting the food supply and public health. PFP is the structure used to coordinate representatives from these institutions with expertise in food, feed, epidemiology, laboratory, animal health, environment, and public health to develop and implement an Integrated Food Safety System (IFSS).

Building an Integrated Food Safety System (IFSS) has long been a foundational element of our nation’s strategy for carrying out an effective and efficient food safety program. It is also one of the key themes of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), signed into law by President Obama in January 2011.

Since 1998, the FDA has supported a series of 50-State Workshops to help build an IFSS, open to officials from all 50 States, including five U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. To implement the recommendations from the 2008 50-State Workshop, the PFP was established. Since its establishment, the PFP has utilized a workgroup structure to help implement the foundational elements to achieve an IFSS, including, but not limited to, uniform program standards, training and certification programs, laboratory analysis best practices, data sharing, joint work planning, inspection and enforcement protocols, and responding quickly to emergencies.

This summer marks the 10-year anniversary of the PFP. To help celebrate all we’ve accomplished in the past decade and to outline its future, the partnership’s Governing Council is hosting the PFP 10th Anniversary Webinar and we invite you to take a look at the Agenda for the event. We also encourage you to share this event with your agency’s leadership and others in your network interested in learning about integration activities and the PFP. Please mark your calendars!
